Xiaomi unexpectedly became the first among smartphone manufacturers to release the public beta version of Android 12. It is available to participants in the Xiaomi testing program, and the company is positioning it as stable. Unfortunately, it became known that this update «kills» some devices.
According to the Xiaomiui resource and feedback from users from a number of communities, the latest Android 12 update for Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 and Mi 11i can block the smartphone and turn it into a useless «brick». So far, nothing has been reported about how to restore devices to working condition. The updates causing the problem have version numbers 220.127.116.11.SKAMIXM, 18.104.22.168.SKBMIXM and 22.214.171.124.SKKMIXM for Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 and Mi 11i respectively. Xiaomiui reports that the problem occurs during installation.
Xiaomi is now warning Mi Pilot Testers to back up their devices due to the potential risk of data loss. However, the crash issue on Mi 11 series smartphones looks rather strange, given that the builds causing problems have been labeled as «MIUI Stable based on Android 12».
Users wishing to try out Android 12 on Xiaomi Mi 11 smartphones are advised not to update their devices to the above builds. Those who have already tried to install the update and received a «brick» are advised to contact the service center.
