As a rule, companies do not spend money on trifles and simply release new devices to replace the old ones. The realme brand has taken a different path — and has prepared small updates for fairly fresh smartphones released this spring: C21 and C25.
We did a full review of the realme C21 in the spring — we won’t tell you in detail about this budget model here, but we note that it was included in our selection of the best smartphones under 10 thousand rubles and as one of the best options. Its main trump cards — a large screen, a practical body, excellent autonomy — were also played out in the realme C21Y, which replaced a smartphone that has not yet become obsolete, but its weaknesses have also been tightened.
To say that the C21Y is radically different from the C21 is an overstatement. You’ll have to look for the differences under a magnifying glass, especially if you just put the smartphones next to each other. By the way, they are different: the C21Y has a slightly smaller bezel around the screen, while it is slightly thicker and heavier. The design is the same — the front panel with a miniature cutout for the front camera (5 MP), the back panel is made of non-slip plastic with corrugation with a speaker on it and a small square with a camera cluster (13 + 2 + 2 MP). Colors are unchanged: black or blue.
The main change affected the hardware — instead of the MediaTek Helio G35, a new Unisoc T610 platform appeared. Take your time, it is noticeably more powerful — with the same 12-nm process technology, it received more serious cores — not eight ARM Cortex-A53, but two ARM Cortex-A75 + six ARM Cortex-A55, which, combined with a more advanced graphics subsystem ( Mali-G52) allows you to count on some gaming potential.
. And this adds advantages not only over its predecessor, but also over its competitors: the smartphone uses 4 + 64 GB of memory, which is practically not found in the budget segment. For example, Xiaomi Redmi 9C only has 2+32/3+64 versions while Samsung Galaxy A12 has 3+32. There is also a notable advantage in terms of platform power. In terms of battery life, the realme C21Y hasn’t sagged – it’s confidently able to hold a charge for a day and a half to two days.
Realme C21Y today costs 10,999 rubles. It does not yet fall into the same selection, but the price increase is negligible, given the noticeably increased power of the device.
But realme C25 was not included in our review, we will tell you about this model in a little more detail. More precisely, we are no longer talking about her, but about realme C25S. This update is made according to the same principle: «we take the same smartphone and, without fundamentally changing anything, we install a fresh hardware platform.» However, in this case, it also affected some parameters in the operation of the camera. However, first things first.
This is already a smartphone of a slightly higher level than the C21Y. Although the screen is the same here: 6.5 inches, HD resolution (1600 × 720 pixels). Low resolution, as in the case of the younger model, is important not only in terms of conditional savings — the key value of the C25S can also be called increased autonomy. Its rather thick (9.6 mm) case houses a 6000 mAh battery, which, again, sets the smartphone apart from the competition.
Of these, perhaps only Redmi 9T has a battery of the same serious capacity, Redmi 9 and Redmi 10, as well as the Samsung Galaxy A12 received 5000 mAh batteries.
Realme C25S also stands out for its hardware platform. The MediaTek Helio G85 is installed here, which, again, surpasses the platforms of the competitors mentioned above in its power. Although the Helio G70, which was installed on its predecessor, the C25, is similar in power — the same cores, but a slightly weaker graphics subsystem.
The smartphone received a quad-camera rear system with a 48-megapixel main unit, a 13-megapixel wide-angle module, as well as a macro camera and a depth sensor. Now you can shoot Full HD video at up to 60 frames per second with the main camera. On realme C25, the frequency was limited to 30 frames per second.
We also note, again, at the same time a pleasant and practical design with non-slip corrugated plastic and a conveniently located rear fingerprint scanner. Colours: blue and light grey.
Realme C25S is currently priced at Rs 14,999. Again, there may be a question about the price, we will give a more detailed answer to it: firstly, yes, this is an improved model in terms of performance; secondly, the rapidly rising prices for components, or rather, the selling price of processors from the manufacturer TSMC, have an effect. However, smartphone prices still remain within reasonable limits.
