Xiaomi has unveiled a prototype of smart glasses that can serve as a standalone product and do not need to be connected to a smartphone. The glasses are equipped with a miniature MicroLED display, support calls, are able to translate speech in real time, provide navigation and other functions.

As planned by Xiaomi, such smart glasses will be able to replace smartphones in the near future. The model, simply called Xiaomi Smart Glasses, looks like a pair of ordinary glasses without diopters. However, the novelty supports the «optical micro-ice waveguide» technology. According to Xiaomi, the model can be used not only for calls and navigation, but also allows you to view and send messages, take photos and more.

The 0.13-inch display is hidden in the frame of Xiaomi smart glasses and has pixels as small as 4 micrometers. MicroLED pixels are individually backlit for unsurpassed brightness and rich blacks. The size of the chip responsible for the display is 2.4 × 2.02 mm. The model is based on a quad-core Arm processor and the Android operating system.

Xiaomi claims that they have opted for a monochrome display with a maximum brightness of 2 million cd/m2 as a solution. Thanks to a special system, the human eye will see a much larger screen without the need for a complex system of lenses, mirrors or a combination of both, as in other products, Xiaomi explains in a blog post.

In total, Xiaomi smart glasses use 497 components, including miniature sensors, and the interaction system with glasses is organized in such a way as to display only key information without interfering with daily activities. The main means of interaction with glasses should be the XiaoAI voice assistant.

The goggles have a built-in 5-megapixel camera. Next to it is an indicator that warns others about the shooting. There is also a built-in microphone, and a proprietary algorithm is able to translate speech in real time and transcribe audio into text.

Since this is just a concept, there is no information about the preparation of a commercial device, and even more so about its entry into the market. It is likely that Xiaomi will not release the model anytime soon, but will use the technology in new developments later.
