Data released by Canalys shows that in the second quarter of 2021, the global wearables market grew by 5.6% year-over-year. During this period, about 40.9 million wearable devices were shipped.
Chinese tech giant Xiaomi overtook Apple to become the top-selling wearable brand in the second quarter of 2021. The Mi Smart Band 6 performed very well despite not being launched in India during this period. Now, after the release of Mi Band 6 in India, sales will continue to grow.
In third place is Chinese tech giant Huawei, followed by Fitbit and Samsung rounding out the top five. Smartwatches are replacing fitness bands, and Apple leads the way with a 31.1% market share. Second place is occupied by Huawei with a share of about 9%. Next come Garmin with a share of 7.6%, Samsung with 7% and Xiaomi with 5.7%.
Smartwatches currently account for 62% of global wearable device shipments. This trend will continue as manufacturers increasingly develop models packed with many important features. Apple is also expected to maintain its lead in the smartwatch market in the third and fourth quarters. After the release of the Series 7 watches in the fourth quarter, sales will increase.
