According to a verified Chinese source of the digital chat station, many smartphones based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC are in development, and the first phone with the new platform will be released in mid-December. An insider claims that the first Snapdragon 898 smartphone will be released by Xiaomi: this phone will be the Xiaomi Mi 12.

Qualcomm’s next flagship Snapdragon SM8450 SoC, due to be released as the Snapdragon 898, will be manufactured using Samsung’s 4nm process, resulting in a 20% performance increase. Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 will have a three-cluster architecture. The platform will include a Cortex-X2-based super-core processor, Cortex-A710-based large cores, and Cortex-A510-based small cores. All of these new developments will run on a 64-bit ARM v9 Pure system. Cortex-X2 delivers an approximately 16% design performance improvement over Cortex-X1. But after being tweaked by Qualcomm, it has been optimized to perform even better. However, to know the real performance of the platform, we should wait for the test results. An insider confirmed that the platform must be very hot.

In addition, Xiaomi Mi 12 series is expected to feature an LTPO screen with an adaptive refresh rate of 1 to 120Hz. This will ultimately help reduce the power consumption of the device. The same screens are expected in the iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max.

Xiaomi Mi 12 should support 120W fast wired charging and 100W wireless charging. However, due to the introduction of new wireless charging regulations, wireless fast charging over 50W will be banned in China.

The digital chat station was the first to accurately reveal the specs and release dates of the Redmi K30, K40, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 11.
