Equipment and appearance
The camera comes in a simple cardboard box. Speaking of the package, it’s worth noting that there’s a USB to microUSB cable, but no power adapter. Any standard will do. Yes, and it is powered by Powerbank.
The platform for fastening to a surface is included in the package. The camera clings to this platform later: I inserted it and rotated it.
The design is neat and concise. There is no control in this case. On the back side there is a speaker and a microUSB connector. The connector absolutely fits, no type-C is needed here.
The microSD card slot is hidden at the bottom of the sphere. There is also a reset button.
There is no adapter included, but the microUSB has a long two-meter USB cable.
The wire was twisted, so I had to press down on it with my laptop to take a picture.
When turned on, the camera motor will rotate left and right, and then for some reason, a synthetic female voice in English will suggest looking at the bottom of the camera, where the QR code is located, and adding the camera to the Mi Home application.
And then the camera will download the update.
A memory card must be inserted into the camera, otherwise it will save a maximum of 10-second fragments in the Xiaomi proprietary cloud when motion is detected. Once the card is in the camera, you can save it to the camera and also set up the NAS.
After adding a camera to the application, the system will prompt you to add a quick access to it on the main screen of the application or smartphone.
Other Xiaomi gadgets are below and above them is the camera window. By default, the main camera screen looks like a small screen with a joystick. No one bothers to display an image in full screen mode. The camera has an LED that can be turned off. WDR mode. The picture gets a little better. There is a «Crying baby» mode, so the camera can be used as a baby monitor. The camera will send a notification when it detects crying.
Motion detection mode works fine. The push notification comes immediately. This mode should be turned on when no one is at home, otherwise the camera will constantly send notifications. Of course, it would be great if the camera could distinguish familiar people from strangers. But, as you know, it’s a completely different story not for $30. However, the camera should be given credit. She continued to notice me even when I turned away. Apparently she was guided by sound? The camera also works very well at night.
A couple of example pictures.
At a price of about 2000 rubles, the Xiaomi Mi 360 camera is seen as a pretty good buy, which will monitor the house in your absence or can earn extra money as a baby monitor, reporting the crying of a child.
The undoubted bonus of the camera is that you can share access to it with family members. Relatively speaking, an advanced grandmother in another city or a vigilant wife on a business trip will be able to connect remotely to see what is happening at home. At the same time, there is a microphone icon on the home screen. You can click on it, say something, and see how everyone immediately turns gray with fear when the camera speaker with a certain metallic sheen transmits your words.
The camera can work not only from the outlet, but also from the battery. So you can take it with you on the road if you need it.
Xiaomi smart home is compatible with Alice and Marusya, so you can control the device by voice.
The camera has the usual automation settings typical of the Xiaomi «If. Then» ecosystem. For example, if the camera detects movement, then turn on the light and send the robot cleaner to attack.
Perhaps the only downside is that you can add a NAS, but there is no support for other cloud services. For example, I have 50 GB available in the cloud from Mail.Ru. It would be convenient to keep it there.
