Today, Xiaomi held the second part of its presentation, the protagonist of which was the Mi Mix Fold. This is a new representative of the slightly forgotten Mi Mix series, and the first folding smartphone of the Chinese company. And if yesterday Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra without exaggeration could be called the king among flagships, then Mi Mix Fold went even further.
The smartphone received a large 8.01-inch flexible OLED display with a resolution of 2480 × Dolby Vision, as well as a maximum brightness of 900 nits.
It folds inward, and when unfolded, the smartphone turns into a small tablet. The screen launches a desktop mode with multiple resizable windows. Especially for its creation, Xiaomi has developed a U-shaped hinge, which is 27% lighter than the hinges used in other foldable devices. The manufacturer claims that the hinge and display withstood 200,000 bends during testing, and then another 1 million bends.
Outside is another display, a 6.52-inch AMOLED with 840× resolution and 180Hz touch screen sampling rate. It also has support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision.
Normally, the display comes first in a foldable smartphone, but the main pride of the Mi Mix Fold is the camera, the result of R&D investment of 140 million yuan and several years of development. It uses the Surge C1 image processing chip (the same Xiaomi proprietary chip) and the liquid lens in the telephoto lens, a first in the mobile industry! It is a flexible film filled with a clear liquid that can change shape, like a lens in the human eye. In addition, it withstands extreme temperatures from -40°C to 60°C. This allows you to adjust the scale from 3x to 30x. The lens has a minimum focusing distance of only 3 cm, which allows you to shoot distant objects and take macro shots. And behind all this is an 8-megapixel sensor.
In addition, the main camera uses a 108-megapixel ISOCELL HM2 sensor that supports 9-to-1 merging, as well as a 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a 123-degree field of view.
Inside, a top-end Snapdragon 888 processor is installed, combined with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The cooling system, which consists of a large vapor chamber, thermal gel and several layers of graphite sheets, is responsible for temperature control.
In addition, there is a 5020 mAh battery (two parts of 2460 mAh) with support for 67W fast charging but no wireless charging, four speakers with Harman Kardon settings, a fingerprint scanner on the side, and NFC.
In the standard version of the phone, the back cover is made of Gorilla Glass with a ceramic texture. There is also a Ceramic Special Edition with a black ceramic backplate (laser engraved) as well as gold buttons for the middle section and volume control.
In addition, the following versions will be available:
- 12/256 GB — $1520/€1300
- 12/512 GB — $1670/€1430
- 16/512 GB — $1970/€1700
The Mi Mix Fold will go on sale in China on April 16th.
