Xiaomi today published an official teaser dedicated to the Mi 11 Lite 5G smartphone. Two features of the model stand out in the image: a thin body and the presence of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G single-chip platform. But what is important here?

The fact is that the Snapdragon 780G is the second Qualcomm single-chip system after the Snapdragon 888, built using the norms of a 5-nanometer process technology. It also uses a «1+3+4″ scheme: The processor is divided into three clusters with one high-performance core, three of the same cores, but running at a lower frequency, and four power-efficient cores. An important difference from the Snapdragon 888 is the absence of the super-core Cortex-X1 core — it is certainly very powerful, but also, according to rumors, is the source of the power consumption and heating problems of the Snapdragon 888. The Snapdragon 780G will not have such problems, as in all four » powerful «cores — the well-known Cortex-A78. What did it give specifically Mi 11 Lite 5G? At the same time, we did not have to invent an innovative and obviously expensive cooling subsystem, like the Mi 11 Ultra, while the Mi 11 Lite 5G is presented by the manufacturer as the thinnest and lightest Xiaomi smartphone from the current list, which, moreover, will not have problems with autonomy. All in all, moving to a 5nm process and eliminating the Cortex-X1 SoC could be a very good combination.

The performance of the Snapdragon 780G is also in order. According to official figures, the processor is 45% faster than its predecessor (i.e. the Snapdragon 768G processor), and the Adreno 642 GPU is 50% faster than the Adreno 620 GPU in the same Snapdragon 768G. In general, judging by the data available on the Web, the Snapdragon 780G runs the risk of repeating the success of the Snapdragon 750G, but only in upper-middle class smartphones.

Other highlights of the Snapdragon 780G include a built-in 5G modem and, for the first time in the series, a Spectra 570 GPU that allows you to take pictures from three cameras simultaneously. Also among the benefits of the Snapdragon 780G are updated GPU drivers and Snapdragon Elite gaming features such as Snapdragon 8 series platforms.
