Samsung Display is currently developing foldable OLED displays for Google, OPPO and Xiaomi, according to TheElec. The source also reports that the devices for which these panels are intended will enter the market before the end of this year.
The Elec report says that the matrix being developed for the upcoming OPPO device has a diagonal of 7.7 inches. At the same time, it will be made in the form factor of a vertical clamshell, as, for example, in the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip. In addition, it is known that the external display of the projected foldable OPPO smartphone will boast a diagonal of 1.5 to 2 inches. Last year, the Chinese company already showed a prototype of a foldable smartphone with a 7.7-inch screen, developed in collaboration with BOE, Visionox and Samsung Display. However, in all likelihood, the South Korean company will become the sole supplier of panels for the serial implementation of this device.
The folding screen for the Xiaomi smartphone will receive the same design, but its diagonal will already be 8.03 inches. The diagonal of the external display of the Xiaomi folding smartphone will be 6.38 inches.
The only thing we know about the screen designed by the South Korean manufacturer for Google is that it will measure 7.6 inches.
Obviously, this year the choice of folding smartphones will become much wider. This can be considered evidence that the clamshell form factor with a flexible screen has taken root, and soon such devices will leave the category of niche products.
