On the morning of August 24, gg reported that Xiaomi would no longer use the Mi brand in the names of its products. A few hours after that, the company released an official statement about the name change.

Formally, the manufacturer does not abandon the brand, which has existed for ten years, but renames Mi to Xiaomi. Such a step will improve the perception of the brand and its products. But at the same time, the company notes that it will take time to implement changes in all regions.

From the third quarter of 2021, the parent brand will combine two lines: Xiaomi and Redmi. The former will offer premium devices that are «the pinnacle of the company’s technological capabilities.» The second is innovation at a low cost. Moreover, the Redmi brand will be targeted primarily at a younger audience.

The debut smartphone, in the name of which there is no prefix Mi, was the experimental flagship Xiaomi Mix 4. Perhaps, on September 15, instead of Xiaomi Mi 11T, Xiaomi 11T models will be presented on the world market. In the future, the company intends to apply the new line naming concept to all ecosystem products.
